 Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Can I attend the bargaining talks as an observer?

A. Yes you can attend.  Your presence is encouraged.

Q. I don’t fully understand some of the language in the proposals and how it will affect me. Will the negotiation team provide explanations to help get a clearer picture of what the proposals mean to the members?

A. If you have questions about negotiations in general or specific proposals, you should ask the mobilizer in your area.  He or she can assist you in getting answers to your questions.

Q. Is there anything I can do to help the union achieve a better contract than the one that has been proposed by the company?

A. There are several things you can do to improve upon the current proposals. First take the time to educate yourself on the language in the proposals. Read them and become knowledgeable on what they contain and most importantly what they mean to your future as an employee of ABC. When you understand what is in the proposed package, let your immediate manager, division managers, news directors and general managers know what language you are not happy with. They need to hear about it often in order for us to mitigate what the company is trying to ram down our throats!

Q. I have not received any E-mail updates from NABET-CWA about negotiations. How can I get these bulletins sent to me?

A. In order to receive E-mail negotiation updates from NABET-CWA, you need to go to the home page on this website and click on the "Register for E-mail alerts" button.

Q. Why aren't negotiation update E-mails sent every day?

A. Negotiation update E-Mails are generally only sent on days that the Union's negotiators meet with the Company's negotiators. Updates are usually not sent on days when the negotiators are holding a caucus to study proposals.

Q. I'm trying to view the Union and Company contract proposals that have been posted on this website but the link will not open them. What do I need to do in order to read the proposals?

A. You need to have a program called "Adobe Acrobat Reader" installed on your computer in order to view the proposals. The program is free and all you need to do is click on the "Adobe Acrobat Reader" button which will link you to the Adobe website where you can download the program. The program is available in both Windows and Mac versions.
